South Texas Family Residential Center

The South Texas Family Residential Center is located just south of San Antonio in Dilley, Texas. The facility has 2,400 beds, making it the largest immigration detention center in the country. Only non-criminal women and children are allowed in the 50-plus acres facility. The detained women and children stay an average of 20 days from the moment they arrive. Many people who are caught throughout the country living without proper documentation or crossing the southern border are sent to this facility while they wait for deportation or immigration court proceedings.

Although the women and children are allowed to roam free within the facility, they are not allowed to leave and must wait until either their asylum request is granted, or they are deported. Many people have found themselves in places like the South Texas Family Residential Center with little options because of the recent crackdown on immigration. The best thing anyone can do if they wind up in a detention facility is to seek representation from an experienced immigration lawyer who can help when all hope is lost.
