Mariely Avilés

Trial Attorney

Mariely Avilés is a bilingual Immigration Attorney at The Gonzalez Law Group, PLLC, with over ten years of experience as a lawyer for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and an additional year practicing Immigration Law in Houston, Texas. Her legal expertise is complemented by seven years with the Alief Independent School District’s, where she provided coaching and professional development for bilingual educators and supported immigrant students in achieving English language proficiency.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor from the Eugenio María de Hostos School of Law in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, where she received the Criminal Law Award and graduated cum laude. During her legal studies, Mariely won her first defensive asylum case while completing her practicum at an Immigration Law Clinic. This transformative experience inspired her to leave a decade-long legal career in Puerto Rico to pursue her true calling—Immigration Law—in the United States.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, to Puerto Rican parents and raised on the island of Puerto Rico, Mariely’s cultural background deeply influences her professional journey and social activities. She is driven by a profound passion for helping immigrants navigate the complexities of the legal system and achieve their dreams of building a better future in the United States.
