After Hurricane Harvey hit Texas with rain and floods of historic proportions, millions of people are now attempting to rebuild their lives and restore their property. But during this long period of recovery, many people will be investigated and some will be accused by authorities of committing different crimes related to this incident, including crimes of fraud, forgery, theft and insurance fraud, among others.

At The Gonzalez Law Group, we stand ready to aggressively defend people that face accusations of such crimes. Our defense attorneys in Houston are the best attorneys to handle charges of fraud, forgery, burglary of habitation and theft cases.

Under Texas law, those convicted of property crimes committed during the state of emergency in Houston can face enhanced sentences, which means they can face worst penalties than usual. The Harris County district attorney has directed prosecutors to “hit hard.”

Some people may attempt to commit “benefit fraud.” Fraud is unfortunately common after cities suffer disasters, especially instances where people who are not entitled to help apply for and obtain benefits intended for disaster survivors. Sometimes benefits are handed out so quickly and widely, with little verifying documentation.

If you or a loved one or a friend is accused of committing any such crimes, call The Gonzalez Law Group so we can assist you with the best team of lawyers in Houston: 832-530-4070.
