The East Hidalgo Detention Center is located near the Southern border of the United States in Harlingen, Texas. This facility houses up to 1,300 noncitizen detainees as they wait to see an immigration judge, be processed out of the country or wait to hear a verdict on their asylum case.

The East Hidalgo Detention Center is owned by The Geo Group, a private company, that has been contracted to detain noncitizens by the Department of Homeland Security. The facility detains thousands of noncitizens a year and provides basic accommodations including food, laundry services, recreation facilities and phones. Many non-citizens will wait at the East Hidalgo Detention Center for weeks until they are seen by the Immigration Court. The following is important information regarding the facility.

- All visitors should expect delays in visiting time and arrive early
- Adult visitors must present a valid government-issued ID to enter facility.
- A minor must not be left unaccompanied in the waiting room, visiting room or any other area.
Legal representatives are allowed to visit their clients daily. Although the time is restricted, arrangements can be made for extended hours.
