PRAIRIELAND DETENTION CENTER

Located almost 40 miles southwest of Dallas, the Prairieland Detention Center (PDC) is a privately-operated ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas. The facility is equipped to house 707 detainees, with a daily average of 688 detainees in 2018. Last year alone, the facility housed over 11,000 detainees, and with the current circumstances surrounding immigration enforcement, it is likely that number will increase in 2019.

Often times detainees at this and other ICE facilities face the legal process alone, either due to a lack of understanding regarding what rights they have or a mistaken belief that there is nothing they can do to combat their circumstances. If you or a loved one has been detained at this or any other ICE facility, it is vitally important that you seek out professional legal help. Knowledgeable experts on immigration law can assist you or a loved one in successfully navigating the immigration court system.

PRAIRIELAND DETENTION CENTER INFORMATION

The Prairieland Detention Center (PDC) is located in Alvarado, Texas, in Johnson County. Originally operated by Emerald Correctional Management, it recently passed in operational authority to the Louisiana based LaSalle Corrections. The newly appointed operators of the PDC are authorized by the City of Alvarado and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain noncitizens. The facility was built in 2016 by Emerald Correctional Management at an estimated cost of $60 million. Amongst the standard housing arrangements found in most detention facilities, the PDC also established a segregated ward for up to 36 transgender detainees.

Well over 11,000 detainees were processed in 2018, and that number is projected to increase steadily in 2019. Listed below are useful pieces of information about the Prairieland Detention Center.
